JENNY JACKETT - TEXTILE ARTISAN
Australian born 1943.
Self taught spinner, weaver and dyer who learnt these crafts while living in isolated areas in outback NSW during the 1960’s.
Trained as a Primary School Teacher 1982-84 graduating with Distinction.
Won major awards for handspun/handwoven garments at Wool Expo Armidale NSW 1989 and 1990 and Barcaldine Qld Historic Woolscour 1991.
Garments selected for Dame Mary Durack Outback Exhibition in Qld Museum 1992.
Awarded 2nd Prize in the Textile Section of the 2002 Dame Mary Durack Outback Exhibition.
Awarded 2nd Prize at the Bendigo Sheep and Wool Show 2002 in the woven length section and 3rd in 2004 in article in other natural fibre.
Placed in the Fashion Fantasia Awards in Hobart 2004. Garment is featured on that web site.
Commissioned to make neckties for a small Corporation 1992.
Pieces selected to be exhibited at Fibrefest 2001, 2003, 2005 and 2011 Brisbane.
Prizes for Spinning and Weaving at Sydney and Brisbane RAS shows over several years.
Solo Exhibitions at The Nundle Woollen Mill, Nundle, NSW May 2003 and April 2004.
Exhibition with another handweaver in Mackay Qld July 2007.

2 Garments selected in different categories for judging in the 2010 Buda Contemporary Textile Awards (Castlemaine Vic) 1st Prize in the ‘Working With Yarn’ section.
Many made to order ‘Rich Rags’ jackets for clients using the Controlled Hit And Miss technique.
Invited by Hand Weavers Guild of America to teach a one day workshop at ‘Convergence 2012' July 2012
Best described as a ‘compulsive textile artisan’ I am fascinated by the feel and character of the natural fibres and the process of incorporating them in the textile so that their qualities are utilised and appreciated.
Manmade yarns are sometimes used for highlights.
My Studio is part of my living space and my Craft is part of my Life.
